Dr.Oz gave 10 steps to better your health today… here are the steps he mentioned…
1. Schedule a check up
2. 5 ingredients to avoid ( high fructose corn syrup, sugar, enriched, trans fat, saturated fat) try to stay away from foods that have these ingredients within the first 5 that are mentioned on the package
3. Add healthy foods (antioxidants 5-7 servings a day ex: tomato, broccoli, blueberries, kidney beans to name a few) (Omega-3 3g daily grind up flaxseed, walnuts, salmon, scallops, soybeans and squash) (Fiber 25g a day lentils, black beans, peas, raspberries, pine nuts) and Olive oil 1 tbsp daily
4. Take a multivitamin
5. know your levels/numbers of the following (waist size, blood pressure, cholesterol, resting heart rate, blood sugar, vitamin D, C-reactive protein, and thyroid stimulating hormone or TSH)
6. find a health advocate (someone who will advocate for you, preferably not a family member, this person should be there to make sure you get the information you need)
7. organize your health records
8. get the medical tests you need (eye exam, yearly physicals, etc…don’t put off exams because you feel embarrassed about them or you feel you don’t have time, it could save your life)
9. start exercising (10,000 steps daily, stretching 5mins/daily, strength training 30mins/week, do some morning yoga)
10. get 7-8 hours of sleep a night ( a cool dark room, no laptops, TV’s on, add white noise like a fan or background music, dress appropriately, establish a wake up time, get the best mattress and meditate 5 mins before bed)
Dr. Oz also asked 3 questions, so here are the questions, something for you to think about and possibly answer yourself..
